Visits AIT, NTA Headquarters
The President/CEO of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, Prof. Justin Green says responsible communication plays important role in strengthening trust among governments, businesses and citizens across the world.
Prof. Green stated this during a visit to European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, His Excellency, Amb. Gautier Mignot on Monday Abuja. The meeting was part of efforts to galvanise the support of critical stakeholders ahead on the forthcoming World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), taking place in Abuja, Nigeria, under the theme, “Responsible Communication: The Voice of the World.”
According to Prof. Green, responsible communication had become increasingly important in an era where information travels rapidly and misinformation easily influencing public opinion, adding that communication should remain an important part of governance, business and civic engagement.
"People are dependent on the information that they receive, and they may not be as literate as some of the other countries. So it's very importantat responsible communication is at the forefront, and that is why we have chosen to discuss it at WPRF Abuja 2026", he stated.
He stressed that the Global Alliance has been advocating for the recognition of communication as a key element of the global Sustainable Development Goals, noting that he had also engaged the United Nations in New York on the importance of responsible communication across governments and the communications industry.
In his response, Amb. Mignot said the focus of the WPRF aligns with concerns being addressed by the European Union with regards to curbing fake news and misinformation, but noted that such efforts must be balanced with the protection of freedom of speech.
“I think very much meeting what our concerns are in terms of communication, with the challenge that, of course, we want to foster responsible communication without restricting freedom of speech,” he said.
The ambassador confirmed his willingness to participate in the Forum, noting that the EU could explore opportunities for engagement through relevant institutions and structures, particularly those dealing with strategic communication.
Also on Monday, the Global Alliance boss visited the headquarters of DAAR Communications Plc Abuja where he lauded the media organisation for partnering with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) as the Official Special Broadcast Partner in Culture, Tourism and Entertainment for the programme.
He was also received at the headquarters of NTA by the Director General, Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos where he emphasised that Nigeria won the WPRF hosting right on merit, coming ahead of other countries of the world as the best.
He concluded the day's activities with a visit to the Abuja City Gate, the shooting location for the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) theme song, where he met with the crew, and thanked them for their contributions towards the successful hosting the historic gathering expected to have over 3,000 delegates from across 126 countries.
Represented by the President of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, Prof. Green reiterated the willingness of Global Alliance to continue to create platforms that showcase the abundance of talents among the youth community in Africa, assuring that highly impactful programmes have been specially tailored for them at the WPRF, including the Global Youth Summit.
