The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the host body for the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) Abuja 2026 says the event taking place this November is relevant to the global community, in view of the crucial role responsible communication plays in managing relationships between nations, which it says has a far-reaching impact on the world economy.
President of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku stated this on Monday in Abuja while briefing the diplomatic community on the one week programme, themed, "Responsible Communication, the Voice of the World". He said a poorly delivered communication could pose a potential threat to how nations relate within themselves and the outside world, stressing that the event empowers leaders to communicate better.
While soliciting for active participation of the diplomats at the one week event, Dr. Neliaku stressed that it stands out among other global events, due to the premium value it offers delegates in energising them to ead.
"We have put together one week of great experience, great learning, great knowledge sharing, great networking — covering all aspects of public relations and communication, as well as governance and leadership. So from 15th—21st November, it will be be a season of festival of communication and public relations", he assured.
While urging the diplomats to encourage their nationals at home and in Nigeria to participate as delegates, partners and exhibitors at the Forum, Dr Neliaku described the forthcoming event as a great history in making, stressing that the Forum will set the agenda for the next decade of the practice of public relations, to be known as the Abuja Declaration, the first of its kind since the 1978 Mexican Statement.
Responding on behalf of diplomats, the Philippines Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Mersole J. Mellejor the Forum is timely especially at a period when the global community is confronted with misinformation and fake news which he said creates more challenges to the world already facing uncertainties.
Describing Nigerians as one the most friendly set of people in the world, Amb. Mellejor encouraged participants from across the globe to participate at the Forum which be expressed optimism will expose practitioners to current pace of innovation and development of technology that affect public relations.
